Many 3D printing filaments absorb moisture from the air. This is called being hygroscopic. When wet filament is pushed through a hot nozzle, the trapped moisture can turn into steam and create print problems.

- bubbles or inconsistent extrusion
Not every material absorbs moisture at the same speed. Nylon, PVA, TPU, PETG, and ABS/ASA are more moisture-sensitive. PLA is usually more forgiving, but it can still become wet if stored poorly for a long time.
If you live in a humid area, filament storage matters. A simple sealed bag with desiccant is better than leaving spools open on a shelf. For more sensitive materials, a dry box or filament dryer can help.
You do not need to panic about moisture before your first print. If you are starting with PLA, just keep the spool sealed when not in use. If you buy PETG, TPU, or Nylon, plan storage before buying multiple spools.
